So we have noticed MaryJane is not keeping up with babies her age as far as standing goes. She will not support any weight on her legs. I called her pediatrician last week and they routinely ordered some X-rays of her hips. We went in Friday night and had them done and started the waiting game for the results. I called Monday, The radiologist had not read the X-rays yet...In the meantime I am looking around trying to find something that will tell me what's going on. I start thinking the worse which brought a few other things to my attention that may not be quite right. I got a call from the Dr. on Tuesday (yesterday) letting me know that the results are in and it doesn't look good. Her hip sockets are not deep enough. So we have been referred to an orthopedic Dr. (the same one Gage goes to for his broken femur). Her appointment is going to be on Monday morning. Her pediatrician said they will probably do some kind of brace to hold her legs in place for her hip sockets to form. If that doesn't work she may end up with surgery. But we are not for sure yet. We need to get the second opinion. We do know this is going to put her behind as far as crawling and walking goes. We met with the pediatrician today just so he could check her hips and see why he didn't notice it sooner. Usually when babies have problems with their hips they can't spreed their legs far apart and you can actually pull the hip out of the socket but she seems fine/normal. But usually one hip is worse than the other and you have one to compare with the other but BOTH of her hips are having the same issue. The Dr. has only seen a handful of babies with this problem in his whole career so it's pretty rare. But we caught it early enough that he thinks it shouldn't be too big an issue to fix so I'm hoping we don't have to do surgery! She'll never walk if we don't fix the problem though so whatever it takes.
While we were at the Dr's today I brought up a couple other concerns I've been having. 1 being her little lip thing she does. The best way to describe it is an upside down Elvis impersonation. He thinks she had some nerve damage when she was born or while she was in the womb that partially paralyzed one side of her face. which makes sense. He said it should slowly get better as she gets older, which it already has. Hopefully it's not going to interfere with her speech or anything.
I have always been a little concerned about her breathing while she's sleeping. When she was a newborn she would hold her breath a lot and it seemed like she would do it for a long time. Now when she sleeps she kind of gasps sometimes. The best way I can explain it is, you know when a baby cries for a while and they kind of whimper and gasp for a while when they start to calm down. It's kind of like that. She seems to only do it at night when she is in a deep sleep. I have had to wake her up to get her to stop just to rest my nerves. It really scares both Dave and I when she does it. It's not all the time though. And the Dr thought maybe she is snoring but it's different than a snore I think. So he gave us a # to a sleep Dr. so we can maybe do a sleep study or something. He thinks it sounds like something we would not want to put off and just ignore. So we will be dealing with that as well.
The other thing I was worried about is hard to explain. There has been 2 occasions where MaryJane had some sort of seizure or something. That's the best word I would use to describe it. One time she was only a couple weeks old and I called the Dr right away when it happened and he didn't think it was anything to worry about. The second time she was a couple months old and I kinda brushed it off like it was nothing like the first one. Well what happens is her eyes get real big and they bounced up and down really fast. and she would get really stiff like she got a chill. It would only last maybe 1 or 2 seconds. I can't really say whether or not I could tell if she was "there" if that makes sense. The Dr. says if they were seizures we would expect them to get worse as she's gotten older and being that we haven't seen her doing that for months now he doesn't think it was anything to be worried about. But that's another thing I am going to have to watch out for.
While we were there I asked about Jackson. He is still having the same problems with the rashes when eating certain foods. I showed the Dr. this picture I took just after he had some yogurt. Everywhere the yogurt touched on his face was bright red. It also happens when he has cheese, like those little cheese and cracker snack packs, and with butter. I only notice it with messy things so I am not sure if just regular milk is doing it to him. The Dr. again said there is nothing else to explain that than he's got some kind of allergy. I asked if it was possible for the allergy to come and go because all his tests we had done for allergies were all negative. He did say it's possible to get a false negative. And he suggested yet again to just avoid those foods and hope it gets better with time.
It really seems like it's never ending. There's always something going wrong. It's hard to think your kids are anything but perfect :(
