More info on MJ

I was searching the web for more info on the issues MJ may face. I found this site

http://www.aafp.org/afp/990700ap/177.html

"About 1 in 20 babies needs more than a brace to fix a hip problem. Some babies need leg casts. Other babies need surgery to fix their hip problem."
I guess 7 months old is not considered an "early diagnosis" of the problem. They usually only use the splint (Pavlik harness (picture 2)) up to age 6 months. So it sounds like they may have to go with casting. And they have to wear it for like 3-6 months... both methods can cause problems to the femur head (avascular necrosis of the femoral head) because if it is not positioned correctly it could cut off blood supply so it will make the head very week and could collapse. I want to cry! :( But What I am hoping is hers is not very severe. The Dr. was not able to detect the issue in the physical exam, so... maybe... I am also worried about something else the article mentioned, "Successful treatment of dysplasia in infancy does not guarantee long-term radiologic normality of the hips. Premature onset of symptomatic degenerative arthritis of the hip remains a possibility later in life." My family has not had the best of luck with hips in their old age as it is. If that is in fact the problem. I guess we should get the definite diagnosis before I start getting too worked up about it. We are praying for the best outcome for her!

Thanks for reading :)
